Adam's Degraaf's quizzical delivery
enhances enjoyment of his touching yet
ambiguous lyrics. This is a very pretty
contrabass-and-guitar art song.
Adam and his brother Jeremy and I sometimes
perform as Slo
Children.

Arvada, Colorado on September 24,
2005.

In the fall of 2004, I slowed down my
automobile to roll down the window for the
veteran begging at the streetcorner
He sat on the sidewalk by the curb with his
cardboard sign. I wanted to give him
something but he did not get up from where
he sat.
"Toss it to me, brother!" he yelled as he
pointed to ... his missing leg.
This song came to me as I drove home.
Lionel Young is a world-class violinist, be
it classical, pop, jazz, blues or whatever.
He was very kind to play and sing on this
track. His daughter Grace also demonstrates
that vocal talent runs in the family!

This song I wrote years ago in revulsion at
the spread of private prisons especially in
my home state of Colorado where they had a
persistent advocate in Gov. Bill Owens
(1999-2007). A public interest group in
Kansas which studies private prisons with
an eye to making recommendations to the
legislature for their elimination requested
I record this song for possible use in a
multimedia campaign.

The Old
Time Colorado Varmitz are based around
singer-songwriter Sylvia Murray's
heart-touching and belly-laughing songs.
Sylvia sings about real life, love, trials,
tribulations and and faith.
The tunes are are sort of
"Western-not-Country-and".
The lyrics are drawn from a rich store of
personal experience.
Rundown River Blues is about hard luck, and
Vinny the Ice Cream Man is about hard love
- frozen hard!
Enjoy!
Recorded live at the DNote Tavern,
Arvada, Colorado in December,
2005.
